Every year, TIME Magazine compiles a list of the top inventions from the previous 12 months, covering a wide range of industries and use cases. This year, the list includes companies making innovations in lidar, AI-enabled 3D modeling, Earth observation, and more.

One company, Nuview, plans to capture elevation data of the entire Earth using lidar technology. With experienced leaders who have worked in the Earth observation space, Nuview aims to provide a comprehensive 3D view of the planet. Although their satellites won’t be live for a couple of years, they have already secured $1.2 billion in business agreements.

Another recognized company, NVIDIA, known for its powerful chips used in AI applications, has made the list for its 3D modeling technology. Building upon last year’s success with NeRFs, NVIDIA’s Neuralangelo product transforms assets from 2D videos into 3D replicas using AI models. Released in August, Neuralangelo has made significant advancements in the field.

On the other hand, onX utilizes lidar and 3D modeling technologies in their product, onX Recent Imagery. This product provides outdoor enthusiasts with the latest insights by utilizing Earth observation imagery derived from Planet Labs. The imagery, updated biweekly, is twice as detailed compared to traditional sources.

These companies have been recognized in TIME Magazine’s “Experimental” category, highlighting their innovative contributions to their respective industries. It is a testament to their dedication to pushing the boundaries of technology and making significant advancements in their fields.
